IMMERSION COURSES in FranceAnnual Immersion Courses in France for Primary School Teachers and Secondary School Teachers 2008.
In 2007, 200 teachers from all over Europe attended one of our courses in France to develop their discursive skills, update their methodology and exchange ideas for good practice in the classroom. These courses which took place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere also aimed at boosting the teachers’ confidence in teaching French as a foreign language. All participants received support from European Union COMENIUS Lifelong Learning Programme available through the British Council or their own Socrates National Agency. The grant fully covers the course fee, subsistence and accommodation, as well as travel expenses for up to 450 Euros (about £300). British Council deadline for applications for Course 1 is 30 October 2007. Deadline for applications for Courses 2 & 3 is 31st January 2008 and courses 4 to 10 is 30 March 2008. About the courses
The venue in Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage City, is Jean Moulin University. Individual accommodation is
provided in la Résidence les Carrés Pégases www.concepthotel.fr in the city centre. In Dordogne, the classes take place in the
Centre International de Séjour of Salignac, near Sarlat-la-Canédat, with individual accommodation in the
local Pavillons www.cisperigord.com. Aims for primary school teachers’ course
· To improve methodological expertise in the teaching of French to young Aims for Secondary school teachers’ course· To develop cultural awareness and understanding of contemporary France· To enhance methodological expertise in the teaching of French to teenagers · To enhance participants’ discursive skills, update their vocabulary and gain new ideas and materials for use in the classroom · To use Internet and other ICT resources in the classroom · To use novels and short stories in the classroom · To debate current issues PreparationThese courses are not suitable for beginners so a prior knowledge of French is essential. Teachers will be expected to share examples of good practice, including classroom activities/games, website addresses and/or useful resources. Those can be prepared in advanced and brought to the course. Follow-upTeachers will receive a certificate at the end of the week. An optional two-day post-immersion course will be organised in Edinburgh 6 months after the immersion in France. Teachers will also have the opportunity to join a Europe/UK-wide network of all participants. Fee
The total cost of the course, including accommodation and subsistence is 1050 Euros, 530 Euros for the
tuition fee and 520 Euros for the subsistence fee payable to Le Français en Ecosse after receipt of the
Comenius grant.
